Nokia, a telecommunications infrastructure company, anticipates an increase in network usage due to developments in the metaverse, Web3, and AI, and plans to meet this demand by 2030.
In their Technology Strategy 2030 study, Nokia underlines the importance of developing a future-proof network architecture to support the increasing market for emerging technologies.
The company forecasts a 22% – 25% increase in network demand between 2022 and 2030, noting the increased deployment of generative AI and virtual reality devices as significant drivers.
The corporation intends to make major investments in its network equipment and services in the next years.
Among the six ecosystems Nokia plans to target, the Internet of Value stands out for its emphasis on decentralization, blockchain, and smart contracts. In the metaverse, Nokia will focus on improving human capacities, spatial computing, and split processing.
The additional ecosystems under consideration are AI, Industry 5.0, the Application Programming Interface (API) economy, and the Cloud continuum.
