Worldcoin, owned by Tools for Humanity, is extending its iris scanning activities in Mexico. According to Criptonoticias, the project has opened additional scanning locations in Mexico City, Monterrey, and Guadalajara.
Mexico’s increased volume makes it the third largest Worldcoin base in Latin America, trailing only Argentina and Chile.
Countries including as Spain and Portugal have temporarily suspended Worldcoin activities due to data privacy concerns, with a focus on the personal data of minors. In Latin America, Argentine and Chilean authorities evaluate the consequences of worldcoin data collecting, and part of the process involves fines.
Mexican legislators, including María Eugenia Hernández of the Morena party, have advocated protecting biometric data gathered by Worldcoin. Hernandez has requested that the INAI conduct an investigation to see whether the personal information obtained and the tokens issued are safe to capture against Bitcoin.
