India is the largest download market in the world. To cater to its users, Walmart Inc.’s fintech company PhonePe Pvt. launched a mobile application store.
On Wednesday, PhonePe released a statement announcing the name of the Android-based store: Indus Appstore. Google’s Play store is the product’s counterpart. On the shop, there will be over 200,000 mobile games and apps accessible in 12 Indian languages.
In the second-largest smartphone market in the world, PhonePe plans to capitalize on the growing trend of mobile usage.
The organization is also looking to form partnerships with smartphone makers, according to Chief Executive Officer Sameer Nigam, who spoke with reporters in New Delhi. By the end of the year, the group hopes to be live on most major phone brands.
It states that developers will not have to pay an application listing fee until April 2025 and can use any third-party payment mechanism of their choice.
Additionally, Ant Group supports PhonePe Group’s payments business, which competes with Google’s GPay and Paytm.
