Tornado Cash developer Alexey Pertsev has been charged with allegedly engaging in the platform’s $1.2 billion money laundering, according to an indictment obtained by DL News in the Netherlands.
The indictment lists 36 suspected illicit Tornado Cash transactions, one of which involved 175 ETH and is supposed to have come from the Ronin Bridge hack. In March 2022, a hack of the blockchain used by the popular web3 game Axie Infinity resulted in the loss of 173,600 ETH and other assets totaling $590 million.
Dutch police discovered a convoluted network of thirty-six suspicious transactions that linked Pertsec to a web of financial misconduct.
The allegations provide a picture of an astonishing covert operation that extends from the high altitudes of the Axie Infinity-connected Ronin Bridge to the dispersed regions of Harmony and Nomad Bridges.
The world is waiting for a courtroom spectacle that could determine the fate of a cryptocurrencycurrency entrepreneur.
