This week, independent journalist Tiffany Fong made public a prison photo of the former head of FTX, Sam Bankman Fried (SBF). This photo, which shows SBF for the first time since his arrest, shows the formerly well-known cryptocurrencycurrency tycoon housed with five other inmates at the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Brooklyn.
On February 19, 2024, independent reporter Tiffany Fong posted a picture on social media that she described as the “first photo of Sam Bankman Fried in jail at MDC Brooklyn. (December 17, 2023).” SBF and five other people are shown in the picture against a plain gray and white wall.
Wearing black track shorts, high-top sneakers, and a loose brown t-shirt, SBF is dressed more subtly than his taller, more outspoken fellow prisoners. The source is identified by Fong as “G Lock,” a recently freed prisoner, even though the faces of the other five detainees are hidden in the photo.
Fong also promised the release of her in-depth interview with G Lock, a former Bloods gang member, which she indicated was coming up soon. She also hinted at a 4:49-minute clip in which G Lock talks about SBF’s sporadic showers while he was employed at MDC. This comes after reports surfaced about SBF being the victim of extortion when he first arrived at the Brooklyn institution.
