U.S. Senators Angus King and Elizabeth Warren expressed concern over Iran’s possible use of cryptocurrencycurrency mining to finance terrorist organizations and attacks in a letter sent on May 1st to the Defense Secretary, Lloyd Austin, and Janet Yellen.
Warren and King said in their letter that there may be a connection between the Iranian government and local cryptocurrencycurrency miners, whose businesses may be generating digital currency that is being utilized to finance terrorist groups like Hezbollah.
Surprisingly, they even assert that these illegal cryptocurrencycurrency funds financed Iran’s most recent and fatal drone attack on American soldiers in Jordan.
The senators are requesting that the Biden administration provide any information regarding the profits made by Iranian cryptocurrencycurrency miners, potential money laundering schemes, and efforts taken to counter these risks. They also mention a recent study that claimed that Iran’s Bitcoin miners made an astounding $1 billion in 2021, with the government favoring more modern cryptocurrencycurrency that is more difficult to track down.
