Jebara Igbara, popularly known as “Jay Mazini” on social media, was found guilty of wire fraud, wire fraud conspiracy, and money laundering and was given a seven-year prison sentence.
Igbara used his boosted Instagram account to trick people into thinking he was a successful cryptocurrencycurrency trader, tricking them into taking part in illegal activities. His company, Halal Capital LLC, was a shell that claimed to be able to generate extraordinary profits for investors who put money into personal protective equipment, securities, and resale goods.
U.S. District Judge Frederic Block sentenced Igbara, who had admitted to scamming the Muslim community of $8 million, during a recent federal court hearing in Brooklyn.
In the end, Igbara’s schemes fooled the investors, and the story of significant financial losses won out. Subsequently, the court adjourned the case and mandated that Hein forfeit $10 million, with the remaining amount to be determined at a later date.
