There is a large-scale phishing attempt that targets users of Etherscan. It involves a lot of ads on the Ethereum blockchain explorer Etherscan. McBiblets, a community member, discovered a number of platform adverts connected to a global phishing effort that preyed on gullible individuals.
It was discovered after further examination that these dishonest adverts weren’t limited to Etherscan. They were also discovered on well-known phishing websites. They even managed to get onto a well-known social media platform and big search engines like Google, Bing, and DuckDuckGo.
The absence of monitoring by ad aggregators such as Coinzilla and Persona may be a factor in the spread of these phishing attempts, according to Scam Sniffer, a Web3 anti-scam platform. Malicious actors may be able to target cryptocurrencycurrency users and exploit vulnerabilities thanks to this oversight gap. This malicious operation, dubbed the “wallet drainer scam,” lures people to phony websites and persuades them to link their cryptocurrencycurrency wallets.
Once linked, scammers can continue to defraud consumers by withdrawing money from these wallets without requiring user identification.
Blockchain security company SlowMist reiterated these worries and advised consumers to proceed with caution when seeing adverts on Etherscan. Although there are indications that the infamous cyber phishing group Angel Drainer is the source of this effort, concrete proof of the scammers’ identities is still lacking.
Users need to take proactive steps to secure their digital assets and educate themselves on phishing attempts in order to defend against such risks.
