Hackers leaked the source code for El Salvador’s Chivo Bitcoin Wallet and VPN. After hackers gained access to the source code of Chivo, the government-owned Bitcoin wallet, things have become worse. The node’s hacker group, CiberInteligenciaSV, has disclosed a system vulnerability and a list of exposed addresses on BreachForums.
Following a pattern of intrusions, including the recent loss of 5.1 million Salvadorans’ personal data, this most recent cyber breach has raised concerns among the populace and business community about the security of the nation’s digital infrastructure.
They also released the Codigo.rar file, which contained code and VPN credentials from the Chivo Wallet ATM network, as if that wasn’t enough.
Cybersecurity specialists have warned of the escalating security concerns generated by such operations, but the Salvadoran government has shown itself to be a blank slate in this regard. VenariX, a cybersecurity project, promptly informed users via a post on X about their intentions to release sensitive data, in line with their Telegram message.
The Chivo wallet was created to support citizens’ Bitcoin trading needs when it was initially introduced as a legal trend in the notable nation in September 2021.
The code leak incident has brought to light digital vulnerabilities, which has increased the security holes in the Chivo wallet and forced the government to take decisive action to safeguard its electronic infrastructure and safeguard the interests of its residents.
