The Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) confirmed Nadeem Anjarwalla’s escape from official custody on Friday, March 22. Anjarwalla, a suspect in the criminal probe of Binance’s activities in Nigeria, broke out of his detention facility, an Abuja guest home. After being escorted by guards on duty to a local mosque for Ramadan prayers, he allegedly made his getaway.
According to preliminary findings, he used a smuggled passport to flee Nigeria. As a result, the workers in charge of his care have been detained, and a thorough investigation is underway.
Mr. Zakari Mijinyawa, ONSA’s Head of Strategic Communication, reported that Anjarwalla’s detention was handled immediately by working with relevant security authorities and Interpol.
A Nigerian court issued a 14-day remand order to Anjarwalla, a Kenyan and British national who worked as Binance’s Africa regional manager, before he fled. After learning that one of its coworkers had been imprisoned, Binance management reaffirmed their commitment to employee safety. They promised to cooperate with Nigerian investigative agencies.
