On March 10, 2024, a transfer of 100 ETH from the hidden Clock Multisig address (0x5DAEA26517788b1c0DDB0200c6Fa6d8248076143) to a new address sparked outrage in the community, notably among those associated with the AssangeDAO. This has sparked concerns about a “Soft Rug Pull,” which SlowMist and RescuETH Rescue have addressed together in an article.
AssangeDAO, which is tied to Julian Assange, has received notice due to its ties to the notorious WikiLeaks founder. Assange, who has been jailed since 2010 for disclosing secret US government information, faces extradition following a December 2021 verdict by the UK High Court.
Assange DAO, a “cryptocurrency-punk” organization inspired by ConstitutionDAO, has launched a JuiceBox fundraising campaign to release Julian Assange. They intended to bid on “Clock 1/1,” an NFT built by Assange and Pak that represents his time in captivity. The funds would go toward his legal defense and raise awareness about free speech issues.
The fundraising campaign for AssangeDAO, similar to PEOPLE, granted supporters 1 million JUSTICE governance tokens for every 1 ETH contributed, leading in large gains owing to the PEOPLE token’s value increase.
Notably, Ethereum’s founder, Vitalik Buterin, gave 10 ETH in February. The inaugural round ended on February 7, 2022, with more than 10,500 ETH raised.
A second round raised 17,422 ETH, surpassing ConstitutionDAO’s 11,613 ETH and establishing AssangeDAO as JuiceBox’s most funded DAO.
