Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) has announced a $30 million investment round aimed at technology-driven gaming entrepreneurs. This effort, led by Andrew Chen, a16z’s general partner who oversees the Games One Fund, focuses on fields such as AI, VR/AR, and Web3 games, among others.
The funds will be disbursed over the following 45 days via a16z’s early-stage accelerator program, “SPEEDRUN.”
Each participating startup will get $750,000. SPEEDRUN is a 12-week program that provides not only funding but also access to industry coaches, mentors, and a network of ambitious founders.
Chen stressed the program’s inclusion, inviting entrepreneurs at all phases of development, from ideation to demonstrated product and revenue. However, entrance is highly competitive, with only 1% of candidates accepted in the last cohort. Nonetheless, 80% of firms in the first cohort received funding after Demo Day.
Interested entrepreneurs must apply by May 19, with the program running from July 29 to October 20, 2024, in Los Angeles, CA.
Matchday and Promodium are two previous graduates of a16z’s SPEEDRUN program, both Web3 games themed around soccer and nonfungible tokens, respectively.
