On Friday, February 16, twenty tech companies promised to protect their artificial intelligence (AI) systems from meddling in elections, including the US one.
Concerns about misleading AI-generated election content that can deceive voters and compromise the credibility of election procedures are addressed in the agreement.
The agreement includes eight activities that participating corporations commit to implementing this year, even though it is voluntary and does not completely prevent AI content during elections.
Twenty well-known businesses, including market giants including Microsoft, Google, Adobe, Amazon, Anthropic, Arm, ElevenLabs, IBM, Inflection AI, LinkedIn, McAfee, Meta, Nota, OpenAI, Snap, Stability AI, TikTok, TrendMicro, Truepic, and X, have signed the pledge.
It also recognizes that international legislators have been sluggish to react to the rapid developments in generative AI, which has forced the tech sector to move toward self-regulation.
Through techniques like voter suppression measures, deepfake videos, targeted misinformation, and biased social media algorithms, AI can affect elections.
Through a thorough analysis of vast amounts of data, artificial intelligence (AI) may identify vulnerable groups and create customized persuasive content to sway ideas or discourage particular populations from casting ballots.
